November 11, 2024 - 11:04 am

I received several notes from subscribers not wanting to sell SLVO because the price has dropped a bunch (about $ 4.00) over the last few days. So I took a look at USOI, and it is down about $ 3.00 per share, so selling SLVO and buying USOI becomes a wash as far as the two ETNs are concerned.

Also, remember that the value of your SLVO shares are down whether you sell or don’t sell. USOI may recover faster than SLVO over the next month. We can’t undo the past and can’t predict the future. We can only make a decision based on current information and prices.

May 14, 2020 - 2:21 pm

Trade Alert:

We are selling calls against existing shares of SNAP (or doing the trade from scratch if you aren’t in it already).  See trade details below for both scenarios.  The yield is 4.2% in 36 days, with max gain potential of 11.4% if SNAP climbs above $ 18.

Trade Details:

May 8, 2020 - 3:22 pm

Our SNAP 15 calls expire at the end of today and the stock is trading above $ 18.  That means our shares will get called away. It also means we hit max gain on the trade (13.2% in under 4 weeks) and we are net positive on all SNAP positions over their lifetime.

I’m fine with letting the stock get called away.  We’ll look at re-establishing a SNAP position next week.

April 23, 2020 - 2:24 pm

Trade Alert:

Our last cash secured put in iShares Silver Trust (SLV) worked out perfectly.  With the position expiring at the end of last week, we are now ready for a new trade.  I remain bullish on silver and we can still get a robust premium by selling puts.  With SLV trading over $ 14, we’ll sell a 13.50 put expiring May 22nd.

Remember, for a cash secured put, you simply sell the put at the 13.50 strike, and you need to have the money in your account to buy the shares at $ 13.50 if you get assigned ($ 1,350 per put sold if the stock is below $ 13.50 at expiration).  At a price of $ 0.44, the yield on this trade is 3.3% (with 29 days to expiration).

April 20, 2020 - 2:13 pm

Trade Alert:

Our iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (VXX) expired last Friday, so let’s sell some more calls against our existing VXX shares.  Remember, this position not only provides excellent premiums, but it also serves as a hedge against a market selloff.  I’ve also included details for doing the trade for the first time if you don’t own the shares.

Trade Details:

April 14, 2020 - 1:22 pm

Trade Alert:

SNAP has held up pretty well despite the crash in March.  The social media/video communication company fits the profile as one that could potentially thrive in a stuck-at-home environment.  Now that the market has mostly stabilized, let’s sell another call against our existing shares (or establish a buy/write from scratch if you don’t have a position yet).

Trade Details:

April 9, 2020 - 1:31 pm

New Trade:

Box (BOX) has actually recovered nicely despite the market crash, and if you still own the shares from our previous positions, you should be making money overall.  The company should fit well into the “work from home” theme that is prevalent in today’s quarantined world.  We’re going to add short calls to our position if you own the shares – or you can start the position from scratch (trade details for selling calls or doing the full buy/write are listed below).

Trade Details:

March 30, 2020 - 2:06 pm

Trade Alert:

Our VXX position expired on Friday, so let’s add a new buy/write. Because call premiums are so high, we can get a very nice yield while still having $ 10 of upside appreciation if the market continues selling off (causing volatility to spike).  See trade details below.

Trade Details:

March 20, 2020 - 12:53 pm

Last night, during our monthly live session, I released a new trade.  In case you weren’t able to attend, here is the that trade in SLV.  I’ve adjusted the price from last night as SLV is up some today.  In this case, we are doing a cash secured put, which is simply selling a put and making sure you have the cash in your account to own the shares if you get assigned on them (at $ 11).  That means you need $ 1,100 for every put you sell in your account.  At $ 0.65, the 4-week yield on this trade is 5.5%.

Trade Details:

March 5, 2020 - 1:55 pm

Trade Alert:

We’re selling calls on existing shares of SNAP.  I also include order details for entering the position from scratch if you are new to this trade.

March 4, 2020 - 2:47 pm

Trade Alert:

It’s time to cash in on our UVXY shares and move to a buy/write in VXX.  Sell the UVXY shares to close and see trade details below for the VXX covered call.

Trade Details:

First step, sell your UVXY shares.

Next step:

March 3, 2020 - 3:09 pm

We will be looking to close our UVXY shares this week for a profit and switch to covered calls in VXX. I’m waiting for a calmer day in the market but we may just have to pull the trigger as I don’t see this action slowing down anytime soon.

February 13, 2020 - 12:08 pm

Closing Alert:

Bloom Energy (BE) has to restate several years of revenues and we don’t want to be anywhere near that situation.  Let’s close both our stock and call position.

Trade Details:

February 7, 2020 - 11:59 am

New Trade:

I promised we would continue the volatility buy/write strategy, but instead of using VXX, we are going to do a short-term trade using ProShares Ultra VIX Short-term Futures ETF (UVXY).  UVXY is the same as VXX except it has 1.5x leverage instead of the standard 1x.  If market volatility continues to stay elevated, this will be a very good position to have on.  If the market goes back to a low volatility regime, then we’ll close the trade in two weeks when the options expire. Either way, I expect this to be a short-term trade.

UVXY is currently trading at $ 11.64.  We’re going to sell the 13 calls for $ 0.54 expiring on February 21st.

February 21st expiration is in 14 days.  Holding until expiration will yield 4.6%.  At max gain (stock at or above) the trade will produce gains of 16.3%.

Trade Details:

February 5, 2020 - 12:28 pm

(Jay):  Just a quick heads up that I haven’t forgotten about getting back into a VXX (or similar product) trade.  I’m just waiting for the right conditions and have several different possibilities I’m watching. Stay tuned for a new trade this week.

January 23, 2020 - 11:56 am

Trade Alert:

Let’s sell calls against our existing share of BOX (or do the full buy/write if you don’t own BOX yet).  Trade details below for either case:

January 21, 2020 - 1:08 pm

Trade Alert:

Our AU calls expired last week so let’s sell more calls against our existing shares.  Trade details below for selling calls or for doing the entire buy/write trade from scratch.

January 15, 2020 - 12:43 pm

New Trade:

We are going to sell more calls against our long VXX shares. See the trade details below for selling calls against existing shares or for doing the trade from scratch if you aren’t already in it.  We’re looking at a 3.8% yield in just 16 days.

January 14, 2020 - 12:52 pm

Correction on the SNAP roll out trade:

I had the Buy and Sell Actions reversed. Here’s the correct trade.

January 14, 2020 - 12:32 pm

With expiration coming on Friday, it’s time to roll our SNAP calls out to February and up to the 20 strike.  Here’s the trade:

January 13, 2020 - 2:02 pm

I sent out a roll trade for Bloom Energy (BE) earlier today, but I didn’t send a text alert.  For those of you who haven’t been able to check your email, here’s the trade:

January 2, 2020 - 1:05 pm

New Trade:

We’ve entered what appears to be a low volatility regime, so our iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (VXX) call sales have not kept up with the downward pace of VXX shares. We need to tweak the strategy in this environment.  As such, I plan on selling short-term calls against our shares until they get called away.  We will then take a more tactical approach to our VXX strategy using both covered calls and cash secured puts.  See trade details below for selling calls against existing VXX shares or doing the buy/write trade from scratch.

Trade Details:

December 31, 2019 - 1:13 pm

New 30 Day-Dividends Trade:

We got a nice move higher in Bloom Energy (BE), so now it’s time to sell calls (or enter the trade from scratch if you are new).  We are selling February calls this time around.  See the order details below for selling calls or for the full covered call trade.

Trade Details:

December 26, 2019 - 12:17 pm

New Trade:

Another stock we had expiring calls on last week is Anglogold Ashanti (AU). The stock price has climbed all the way up to around $ 22 (which is great since our 21 calls expired before the big move higher), so we’re selling the 23 strike calls in January. Below are order examples for selling calls on existing shares and doing the trade from scratch.

Trade Details:

December 23, 2019 - 1:50 pm

Trade Alert:

Here’s the first of the new calls we’ll be selling this week, starting with SNAP.  We’re selling calls against existing shares now that are previous calls expired last Friday. I also show an order example for a brand new covered call trade if you weren’t in the last one.

Trade Details:

December 10, 2019 - 2:06 pm

New Trade:

Our last Navistar (NAV) position was called away in November.  Now we have a chance to get back in using January options for a solid yield (2.7%).  See the new trade below:

December 3, 2019 - 11:25 am

Trade Alert:

Earnings have passed for Box (BOX) and the numbers looked very good.  The stock has rallied and is now sitting right around $ 18/share. We’re going to sell the 19 calls in January.  If you don’t own the shares, I’m also providing trade details for the full covered call trade.

November 25, 2019 - 1:59 pm

Trade Alert:

Our VXX calls expired out-of-the-money last week, so it’s time to add a new short call position against our existing share.  Or, if you are new to this trade, I’ve also provided a full covered call recommendation to do from scratch.  For existing VXX shares, don’t worry too much about the current price versus our cost basis.  VXX will gap higher when it moves up and that will generally happen when other stocks are going down.

Here are the trades:

November 21, 2019 - 11:35 am

New Trade Alert:

These are two new trades form last night’s Disruptive Dividend Webinar. Feel free to add both to your portfolio at today’s prices.

November 15, 2019 - 1:27 pm

Regarding the trades I have expiring today (ASTE and BOX):

  • ASTE is at max gain and in-the-money so we’ll let our shares get called away.  I don’t plan on establishing a new position in this stock for now after the recent parabolic move in the share price.
  • BOX calls will expire worthless which leaves us with the just the shares.  That works out very well since earnings are coming up and I prefer to not cap our upside potential should the stock gap higher.  After earnings later this month, we can write new calls against our shares.

November 12, 2019 - 11:27 am

Trade Alert:

Bloom Energy (BE) action this past week has been a good news/bad news situation.  The good news is that the company crushed earnings and is headed higher, hopefully much higher. The bad news is we were short the 4 strike and the stock price is up to $ 5.65.  In order to roll this trade out, we are going to have to spend some money.  Ultimately, if the stock gets back up to $ 10 or above, it will all be worth it.  In the short-term though, it is difficult to watch potential gains go uncollected because our gains our capped at $ 4 per share.  We could keep our roll price to around $ 1 if we roll to the December 6 strike.  However, I don’t want to have the same issue occur if BE does keep running higher.  I’ve been saying all along that the stock is undervalued and I think it should be much higher.  As such, we are going to roll the trade to the December 7 strike.  It will cost us about $ 1.45 debit per call we roll out.  See below for trade details.

October 25, 2019 - 2:07 pm

Trade Alert:

We’re going to sell calls against our existing shares of BOX, or you can do this trade from scratch if you aren’t in BOX at this time. Details for either trade situation are shown below.  This position will expire before BOX earnings.

October 24, 2019 - 1:10 pm

Trade Alert:

Let’s sell calls against our existing AMD shares, or if you are new to this trade, this is a good entry point for establishing a new AMD covered call position.

October 22, 2019 - 1:03 pm

Trade Alert:

We’re due for a up move in VXX, but regardless, let’s sell some more calls against our long position (or do it from scratch if you don’t have it on already).

October 18, 2019 - 1:04 pm

Trade Alert:

We’re initiating a new covered all position in Navistar (NAV).  The stock has rallied quite a bit on positive trade news, so it’s time to get back into covered calls. See trade details below:

October 4, 2019 - 1:37 pm

Trade Alert:

After giving Bloom Energy (BE) plenty of time to recover, I think it’s safe to roll down our 5 calls to the November 4 strike. To do this, we’ll close the 5 strike (buy it back) and sell to the open the November 4 calls as seen below. There’s also an order entry screenshot (at the bottom of the alert in green) for those who want to initiate this trade from scratch (if you aren’t already in it).

Trade Details:

Buy to close the Bloom Energy (BE) October 18th 5 call

Sell to open the (BE) November 15th 4 call

Total credit should be around $ 0.30 or $ 0.25 (try to get filled at $ 0.30 first before moving down to $ 0.25)

You should be able to do the roll trade as one transaction (like in the screenshot below):

Full covered call trade:

October 2, 2019 - 2:34 pm

Please ignore that last text alert, it was meant for Options Profit Engine subscribers!

September 26, 2019 - 1:54 pm

Trade Alert:

Let’s sell calls against our existing shares of ASTE.  Or, if you don’t own ASTE, I also provide a full covered call order screen so you can do it from scratch (the second screenshot).

September 24, 2019 - 1:32 pm

Trade Alert:

We got a nice uptick in VXX, so time to sell some calls against our stock – see screenshot for details. There’s also a screenshot below for doing the trade from scratch if you don’t already own the shares.

September 23, 2019 - 4:39 pm

My current plan is to do a VXX trade tomorrow morning and NAV/ASTE later in the week.  So be prepared to do some trading this week!

Jay

September 19, 2019 - 1:32 pm

We’re doing a new trade on AMD.  The first screenshot is for those who already own shares of AMD (just selling calls)  The second is for those who are doing the AMD trade for the first time (buying stock and selling calls).

September 18, 2019 - 3:54 pm

A couple quick points:

  • I discuss BE in depth in the newsletter, so please give it a read if you get the chance.  We’ll talk more about it tomorrow night during the live session
  • I mentioned in the newsletter there would be a new AMD trade – that will happen tomorrow instead of today because I wanted to avoid trading on Fed day

Thanks!

Jay
